Rogues' Memories - Barbados Island Adventures with Rex.

With his parents, Les and Muriel, Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel. It was only a short walk from Settlers Beach. The shop took hotel guest diving and on sailing trips along the coast. He was a professional seaman trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in navigation, sailing, diving, explosives, and marine work.

Rex was among the most charming Rogues in Paradise. He had an infectious sense of fun and used it to win over every situation. Sailing to St. Vincent with a friend at age 11 shows his spirit of adventure. He encouraged all to share his pranks and daredevil acts, making it seem safe, easy, and a joy.

When walking out of the sea at Settlers Beach Villa Beach Hotel, in full diving gear, wetsuit, and tank, Rex looked like a James Bond character on a mission. He had a six-inch dagger secured to his foreleg and carried sticks of dynamite . His mission was to plant explosives around the reefs, set to explode when he was safely on land. It was a government-approved job to create a swimming area for visitors. The explosion shook the buildings just minutes after he was on land. "Oh!" he giggled, slightly perturbed," Perhaps a stick too much dynamite on that one."
